The supplier determines whether the colour temperature in room 412 still matches room 108 after two years of spare-part replacement, whether the reels that arrive match the sample that was approved, and whether anyone answers a technical question during commissioning. What a Hotel LED Lighting Supplier Should Deliver

This is the requirement list a hospitality buyer should hold every quoting supplier against, Senfey included. It is written as a specification, not as a sales claim.

  1. Range wide enough for one bill of materials. Guest rooms, corridors, food and beverage, spa and exterior signage coverable from one strip family with one connector system, so the site is not reconciling four suppliers’ tolerances.
  2. Repeatable published specification. Colour temperature, colour rendering, voltage, PCB width, LED density and IP rating published per model and stable between orders. A supplier that quietly changes LED density between batches is the most expensive kind of cheap.
  3. Documentation that matches the shipping model. Datasheets and certificates naming the exact model code delivered, not a similar model in the same family. This is where paperwork audits usually fail.
  4. Batch and reel control. Clear reel numbering, and a written answer on whether one zone can be filled from one production batch.
  5. Export logistics. Transit-grade packaging, model labelling on cartons, HS codes and destination documentation.
  6. Spare-part continuity. How long the exact model stays orderable, because a hotel needs matching strip for turnovers years after handover.
  7. Reachable technical support. A named contact answering in the project’s working language during commissioning, not only during quotation.

Two items commonly requested on hospitality projects sit outside a strip manufacturer’s control: photometric calculation files for the finished luminaire assembly, and certification of the installation against a building control platform or a local electrical code. Both depend on the profile, diffuser, driver and wiring chosen by the project, not on the strip alone.

What Senfey Actually Supplies — and What It Does Not

Stated plainly, so nobody discovers it on site: Senfey supplies LED strip, LED neon flex and matched strip-level controllers and low-voltage adapters. Senfey does not supply aluminium profile or diffusers, occupancy or daylight sensors, key-card interfaces, DALI, DMX, 0–10 V or wired-bus control gear, BMS integration, or emergency lighting systems, and does not certify a strip against a particular building control platform. Those are specified and supplied by the controls contractor and the project’s electrical engineer; our role is to confirm the strip is electrically compatible with the driver and dimming method they have chosen.

The controller range is finite and worth naming rather than calling “smart”: inline, touch and RF single-colour dimmers, infrared RGB controllers, and a Bluetooth controller for addressable pixel strip. Power is via DC 12 V adapters from 12 W to 96 W. Anything beyond that — a property-wide scene system, a room management system, a hotel BMS — is integrated by the controls contractor, and we specify strip to suit it. Buyers sometimes read a scope statement as a limitation. On a hospitality project it is the opposite: the specification risk is almost never the strip, it is the seams between packages. Naming the seams before contract is what stops them becoming variation orders.

Property class changes the specification more than most quotations acknowledge. The corridor detail that is correct for a resort is over-specified for a roadside motel, and the reverse is worse.

Luxury and full-service hotels

Guest-facing light lines are seen directly, so COB is specified where the emitter is visible or close to a low reveal, with SMD behind deeper coves and in back-of-house. Our COB range is CRI 90, the relevant figure for skin tones in bathrooms and for suite finishes. Scene control comes from whichever room-management platform the project chooses; our part is the strip and the compatibility check. Batch consistency matters most here, because a suite usually has several light lines visible in one glance.

Mid-scale and business hotels

SMD 2835 in profile with an opal diffuser covers most of the scope at sensible cost, with COB reserved for the reception desk, lift lobby or any exposed reveal. Pre-terminated leads and one connector system cut site labour more than any strip upgrade does. Our SMD range is CRI 80; a zone needing better rendering should be specified in COB rather than assumed from the SMD line.

Motels and roadside properties

Retrofit into existing coves and signage dominates, so mechanical simplicity beats sophistication. Exterior work — canopies, building outlines, signage — must use LED neon flex, the only exterior-rated product in our range, in silicone IP65 and IP67 and PVC IP67. This is a hard boundary, not a preference: every Senfey SMD and COB strip is IP20 and indoor-only, so it cannot go outdoors, in a wet-cleaned pool surround or in an unprotected canopy, however the profile is detailed.

Chain rollouts

The requirement is repeatability across properties and across years, not peak performance in one: fix exact model codes in the brand standard, agree how long they stay orderable, and order a zone’s strip in one batch wherever light lines are seen together. How to Evaluate LED Lighting Suppliers for Hotels

Every supplier’s page claims quality control, certification and support. The only useful method is converting each claim into something testable before award. Apply this to us as readily as to anyone else.

Test the manufacturer claim, do not accept it

Ask which processes are in-house and which are bought in. Most strip suppliers, including honest ones, buy LED packages and drivers rather than making them, so a supplier claiming to manufacture everything is describing an aspiration. What matters is whether they control the assembly, the batch records and the replacement route.

Sample the exact model code, not a demo kit

Order the specific model in the specific colour temperature, from one reel where a zone will be filled from one batch. Evaluate at night as well as in daylight, in the profile the project will actually use, at the dim level the room will actually run. Strip that looks identical on a desk can separate visibly once diffused, and low-level dimming is where cheap driver and controller combinations reveal themselves.

Check certificate scope line by line

Certificates should name the model code on your purchase order and cover the market you are importing into. A certificate for a related model in the same family is a real document that will still fail inspection. Ask which body issued it, and verify the reference with that body directly if the shipment is large.

Ask what the supplier will not do

The highest-yield question in the process, and almost nobody asks it. A supplier who cannot name the boundaries of their own scope either has not worked on a coordinated project or intends to discover the boundary during yours.

Capacity, continuity and communication

Confirm the quantity producible in one batch, its lead time, and what happens if the programme slips two months — reels held for a delayed site are a real exposure for both sides. Confirm the spare-part horizon, which for a hotel matters longer than the warranty. Then treat the technical answers you get during quotation as the best available forecast of the answers you will get during commissioning.

Product Scope a Hotel LED Lights Manufacturer Should Cover

  5. Addressable strip — pixel-controlled SMD and COB for feature walls, with a Bluetooth pixel controller.
  6. LED neon flex — the exterior and signage product, in silicone IP65 and IP67, PVC IP67 and an addressable RGBIC version. The IP67 outdoor PVC LED neon strip is the usual choice for canopies, building outlines and signage.
  7. Strip-level controllers and 12 V adapters — single-colour dimmers, IR RGB controllers, pixel controller and DC 12 V adapters, in LED strip connectors and power supplies.

Not in the range, and therefore to be sourced elsewhere on a hotel project: aluminium profile and diffusers, tunable-white or CCT-adjustable strip, DALI, DMX and 0–10 V control gear, mains-dimmer-compatible drivers, and any sensor, keypad or gateway hardware.

Procurement Workflow for Hotel and Motel Projects

  1. Design brief. The designer fixes colour temperature, colour rendering, IP requirement and control method per zone. Fixing the control method early prevents strip being ordered that the chosen dimming platform cannot drive smoothly.
  2. Shortlist and RFQ. Two or three suppliers quote against the same bill of materials and specification. Quotes built on differing assumptions are not comparable, and the cheapest is usually the one that assumed least.
  3. Sample and mock-up. One guest room and one corridor section with the real profile, diffuser and controller, reviewed at night. This step catches more than every document in the process combined.
  4. Award and contract. Lock model codes, colour temperature, batch arrangement, programme, spare quantity, spare-part availability period and warranty in writing — and record which party supplies profile, sensors and control gear.
  5. Production. Confirm reel identification and batch arrangement for zones seen together, and inspection arrangements if the contract value justifies it.
  6. Logistics. Export packaging, carton labelling by model code, shipping and customs documents per destination.
  7. Delivery and commissioning. Check cartons against the packing list, confirm strip-to-driver pairing per circuit, and test the full dimming range — including the bottom of it — before ceilings close.
  8. Maintenance stock. Hold spare strip and controllers from the project batch with model code and reel identification recorded, so a future turnover is matched rather than approximated.

Practical points for anyone preparing to buy LED light for hotel & motel projects from an overseas manufacturer, whether or not that manufacturer is us.

  • Order against a written specification, not a model number. A model code alone does not record colour temperature, length, termination or batch arrangement — exactly what a dispute turns on.
  • Settle market approvals before quotation. Requirements differ by destination and attach to the finished assembly as installed, not only to components. Your local electrical consultant, not the strip supplier, is the authority on what your jurisdiction requires. Starting points: the European Commission on CE marking and the RoHS Directive.
  • Verify dimming compatibility before shipping. Send the actual driver, dimmer or platform model your project will use and get compatibility confirmed as a chain — strip, driver, controller, interface — not component by component. Most low-level flicker complaints originate here.
  • Match IP rating to the real environment, cleaning included. A pool surround, wet-cleaned spa or exposed canopy is an exterior environment, which in our range means neon flex rather than strip.
  • Establish who produces photometric files. Calculation data for an assembled luminaire depends on the profile and diffuser as much as the strip, so agree the owner of it early.
  • Agree the spare-part horizon in writing. Hotels replace strip during turnovers for years after handover, and colour matching to a discontinued model is not possible.

How do I choose between LED lighting suppliers for hotels?

Can your COB or SMD strip be used on exteriors, canopies or pool surrounds?

No. All Senfey SMD and COB strip is IP20 and indoor-only. Exterior, signage and wet-cleaned zones must use LED neon flex, available in IP65 and IP67. If a drawing shows strip in one of those locations, re-specify before ordering rather than compensating with profile detailing.

Which CRI can you supply?

COB is CRI 90, SMD is CRI 80. There is no CRI 95 product in the range, so guest-facing zones with critical colour rendering — bathrooms, restaurants, spa, retail display — should be specified in COB rather than assumed achievable in SMD.
