This case documents bridge rgb pixel neon flex lighting on an Approx. 68 m pedestrian steel-arch crossing over the Ostravice River in Ostrava — a working municipal footbridge the parks department wanted back in evening use. Approx. 210 m of natively IP67 neon flex went on in three zones, and the spec changed twice on site before anyone ordered a reel.

What This Bridge Is, and Where the Metres Went

Two steel arch spans in series, Approx. 34 m each, meeting at a mid-river pier. The bridge rgb pixel neon flex lighting breaks down by viewing distance, not by drawing:

  • Arch top chord — Approx. 78 m over two arches, read from the far bank at roughly Approx. 90 m.
  • Arch under-belly — Approx. 68 m, read from the walkway Approx. 3 m below it.
  • Upstream handrail — Approx. 64 m, stopping short of each abutment where street lighting takes over.

The downstream handrail is unlit by survey decision, not budget: it carries the cycle lane, and a lit rail at hand height throws light into an oncoming cyclist’s eyes. The layer sits inside our architectural linear LED lighting work.

Three Surveys, Three Things the Drawing Got Wrong

Very little about bridge rgb pixel neon flex lighting survives contact with the structure itself.

  1. Cyclists use the arch top. Proposal: surface-mount along the top chord. Found on site: in daylight the chord is used as a shortcut, so the run would have sat under a pedal path and been crushed inside a season. Revision: it moved to the outer face of the chord behind a folded stainless flashing that doubles as an anti-slip edge.
  2. The Approx. 30 m data span nobody costed. Proposal: one pixel controller per arch, each playing its own show file. Found on site: two independent players on one structure drift apart visibly within minutes. Revision: both controllers slave to one DMX512-A universe on a shielded pair in the deck conduit, per ANSI E1.11. Sync stops being something you tune.
  3. February is the only maintenance window. Proposal: field-sealed connectors at every Approx. 6 m tap. Found on site with the foreman: the bridge closes three days a year, during the freeze, and field-sealed joints need dry hands and dry surfaces. Revision: every section arrives pre-terminated and mates inside a stainless junction box bolted to the arch — the connector never sees weather, and a gloved swap needs no tools.

Motion goes where the viewing distance is long. The addressable RGBIC part takes the arch tops, because a chase reads cleanly from the far bank and the city can hand the bridge to an event show. The under-belly gets plain RGB: pedestrians pass Approx. 3 m under it, a whole-zone colour is enough at that range, and it halves the data budget. The handrail runs static warm white — a guide light should not compete with the arch above it. Event-mode show files borrow from the same control practice as club LED lighting, tempered for a public footbridge.

One thing this bridge rgb pixel neon flex lighting did not use: our 12V WS2811 strip, which is IP20 as supplied. Sleeving it would work, but it buries every joint inside a tube nobody can inspect, so the waterproof addressable question got answered with natively IP67 neon flex instead.

Ingress, Voltage and Cold-Weather Numbers

  • Every outdoor circuit is 12V SELV per IEC 61140. Nothing touchable carries more than 12V.
  • Every cut end and joint was immersed at Approx. 1 m for 30 minutes — the IPX7 procedure in IEC 60529 — before it left the bench.
  • Injection every Approx. 5 m, each section fed from both ends. Worst-case tail drop measured Approx. 2.8%.
  • The arch tops carry Approx. 9,360 LEDs — Approx. 78 m at 120 LEDs/m — and that is what the controller mapping has to match, not a round number off the drawing.
  • Jacket temperature at −8 °C ambient, full white: Approx. 22 °C. At Approx. 31 °C summer ambient, Approx. 46 °C.
  • Risk Group 0 at handrail distance under IEC 62471.

Four Notes if You’re Specifying a Similar Bridge

  1. Walk the deck with the maintenance team before choosing a connector. The maintenance window sets the termination method for bridge rgb pixel neon flex lighting, and it is the constraint nobody prices.
  2. Put motion where the viewing distance is long. Addressable metres cost more to buy and more to control — spend them on the arch, not the handrail.
  3. Check the IP rating of the part as supplied, not the rating you could reach by sleeving it.
  4. Slave both sides to one data universe. Two independent show players on one structure will drift apart.
