Project Overview
This commercial LED strip lighting system represents Senfey’s largest single-building installation to date — 28,500 meters of tunable white LED strip deployed across all five levels of the world’s most celebrated airport retail destination. The airport LED lighting solution covers retail canopy walkways, escalator coves, landscape pathway edge lighting around the Rain Vortex, and the Canopy Park indoor garden illumination zones. Together, these elements create a unified daylight-supplementing environment that operates continuously around the clock, 365 days per year. Moreover, the commercial LED strip lighting system integrates directly with the building’s BMS to automatically adjust color temperature based on real-time daylight availability through the iconic glass dome. Consequently, passengers experience consistent visual comfort whether transiting at noon or 3AM, while the facility achieves significant energy savings compared to conventional static lighting. Senfey worked with Changi Airport Group’s engineering team for 16 weeks to commission every zone individually.

Client Requirements & Challenge
The 24/7 operation of an international airport demanded absolute zero tolerance for lighting failures — any dark section immediately affects passenger wayfinding and retail visibility. Specifically, tropical Singapore’s persistent high humidity (averaging 85%+ relative humidity year-round) required enhanced moisture protection far beyond standard IP ratings, as condensation forms daily on ceiling surfaces during air conditioning cycles. In addition, the unprecedented scale of 28,500 meters across five distinct levels demanded meticulous zone addressing for both energy management and rapid maintenance identification when individual sections require attention. Integration with the building’s existing Siemens BMS for automated daylight-responsive dimming was essential for achieving the airport’s green building certification targets. Furthermore, installation access windows averaged only 5 hours per night between 1AM and 6AM when passenger traffic reached minimum levels, therefore requiring pre-assembled modules for rapid deployment. The electrical contractors needed to coordinate with 47 separate retail tenants whose fit-out schedules overlapped with the common-area lighting installation.

Senfey Solution
Senfey supplied tropicalized COB strips with aerospace-grade conformal coating rated for 95% RH continuous operation without degradation of light output or color accuracy over the 5-year warranty period. The airport LED lighting solution uses tunable white technology (2700-5000K) that adjusts automatically via DALI-2 BMS integration to supplement natural daylight entering through the glass dome structure. As a result, energy consumption runs 43% below the previous fluorescent system while delivering superior color rendering and uniformity. Every meter of the commercial LED strip lighting system carries a unique digital address enabling remote diagnostics — facility managers identify exact failure locations from their operations center without physical inspection. Redundant power distribution architecture ensures any single PSU failure affects less than 15 meters of strip, maintaining 99.97% system availability as verified over the first 14 months of operation. Senfey additionally provided 380 IoT diagnostic modules that continuously monitor current draw per zone and generate predictive maintenance alerts before visible failures occur.
