Project Overview
This architectural facade LED lighting project traces the entire structural exoskeleton of Zaha Hadid’s world-first free-form high-rise building with 22,000 meters of programmable pixel LED strip for buildings. The installation follows every visible structural member of the Morpheus Hotel’s iconic exoskeleton with individually addressable RGBW lighting, creating one of Asia’s most recognized and photographed nighttime architectural identities. Moreover, the system extends into the interior atrium void and dramatic sky bridge areas, providing a continuous visual narrative from exterior to interior spaces. The pixel LED strip for buildings delivers 660,000 total addressable pixels mapped precisely to the building’s three-dimensional BIM model, enabling real-time architectural animation content that renders smoothly across complex non-planar surfaces. Consequently, the Morpheus has become a destination landmark where visitors gather nightly to photograph the dynamic lighting displays. Senfey collaborated with Melco Resorts’ operations team for 14 weeks to deliver this architectural facade LED lighting system that defines the building’s identity in the competitive Cotai entertainment district skyline.
Client Requirements & Challenge
The exoskeleton’s complex geometry includes over 1,200 unique structural member angles — no two pieces share identical dimensions, therefore requiring custom-length pixel LED strip for buildings cut to exact measurements derived from BIM data with millimeter precision. Each strip segment needed unique labeling and sequential packaging to enable efficient installation without on-site confusion or errors. In addition, the Art-Net pixel mapping system must render architectural animation content smoothly across highly non-planar surfaces at 48fps refresh rates for video-quality motion — any frame dropping or latency between controllers creates visible tearing artifacts that destroy the immersive effect. The marine-adjacent location in Macau exposes all exterior components to persistent salt air corrosion, high humidity exceeding 90% during typhoon season, and intense UV radiation that degrades conventional diffuser materials within months. Furthermore, the building operates as a premium hotel where facade maintenance access is severely restricted, therefore demanding exceptional component reliability with a target lifespan exceeding 50,000 hours without replacement.

Senfey Solution
Senfey extracted exact measurements for all 1,200+ structural members directly from the building’s authoritative BIM model, pre-cutting and individually labeling each pixel LED strip for buildings segment for its specific installation location. This approach transformed a potentially chaotic installation into a systematic kit assembly process, reducing on-site installation time by approximately 40% compared to conventional measure-and-cut methodology. Custom exoskeleton profiles with full IP67 rating and UV-stabilized polycarbonate diffusers protect against Macau’s aggressive coastal climate while maintaining optical clarity for the 50,000-hour rated lifespan. The architectural facade LED lighting uses Art-Net protocol over redundant fiber-optic backbone with 8 paired controllers, ensuring seamless animation continuity even if any single controller fails during operation. Furthermore, Senfey provided two dedicated pixel mapping servers capable of rendering real-time 3D content mapped to the building’s exact geometry at 48fps, enabling the creative team to develop and deploy new architectural animations without any interruption to nightly display schedules. The complete system delivers 660,000 individually controllable pixels across the entire exoskeleton structure.
